Crossover Collar Aran Knitting Pattern
This aran sweater PDF pattern for 18″ dolls such as American Girl is a beautiful design inspired by a favorite designer sweater. One charming feature of this sweater is its distinct collar, set into a square neckline, crossing at the chest. This design also looks lovely for a turtleneck sweater, so there are additional instructions to create a turtleneck instead of the crossover-collared version.
To create the sweater, the body is knit first, split at the arm holes, and worked to the shoulders. The collar stitches are picked up and knitted afterwards, then stitched at the front neck. The set-in sleeves are knitted separately and sewn in. The sweater is finished with a back ribbing and snaps or a zipper. It is fully open in the back for ease of dressing.
Supplies Needed:
-2 skeins of fine fingering weight wool or blends such as Palette or Stroll from Knitpicks. Both of these wool yarns have 231 yards in a 50 gram ball. (You might be able to complete the project with one, but having spare yarn will spare you any stress).
-Knitting needles in US sizes 1, 0, and 00 or size to obtain gauge.
-Six sets of 4/0 snaps OR separating zipper for back closure, with needle and coordinating thread
-Yarn needle for finishing
-Small crochet hook to aid in picking up and knitting collar and back ribbing.
-Two 5-7 mm buttons
Gauge–In stockinette stitch with size 1 needles, my gauge is 17-18 stitches and 23 rows in a 2 x 2 inch square
