Melanie Top and Capri Pants 18″ Doll Clothes Pattern
The Melanie outfit, by Genniewren Designs, consists of a classic style A-line top in a choice of lengths, with or without sleeves, teamed with capri pants offering a choice of a shaped cuff or flared ruffle finish.
The contrast bib style appliqué can be trimmed with rick rack or lace, or trims can be added to the front as in the pink version. The top is the perfect canvas for embellishments such as trims or machine or hand embroidery.
This pattern is designed to be made from fabric scraps, so let your creative instincts run free and mix colors, prints, plains, plaids, spots and stripes to create a totally unique look.

The Melanie PDF sewing pattern has been designed to fit the popular 18 inch soft bodied dolls such as American Girl Doll ®, Gotz Precious Day Doll ®, My London Girl ® or Madame Alexander Favorite Friends ®.
Recommended Fabrics: woven fabrics only. Suggested fabrics include cotton poplin, cotton lawn, quilters’ cottons, chambray, broadcloth or poly cotton blends. The capri pants could also be made from slightly heavier fabric such as cotton twill or denim.
Supplies Needed:
-Two toning fat quarters (18” x 22”) for the top and pants, or scraps left over from dressmaking for the main and contrast fabric
-One fat quarter (18” x 22”) for the top lining.
-Narrow elastic (high stretch), approximately 3mm (⅛ inch) wide. There is room in the waist casing for elastic up to 3/8 inch wide, so if you prefer to use wider elastic that will be fine. You need approximately 22.5 cm (9 inches) for the pants waist, depending on how stretchy your elastic is.
-Two one inch strips of lightweight iron on Vilene interfacing to reinforce the back opening. The strips each need to be the length of the top center back, less half an inch.
-Lace trims or rick rack as desired.
-Four small snaps or a strip of anti-snag hook and loop tape for the back closure. You may also wish to add four small buttons (¼ – ⅜ inch) as decoration on the back closure.
