Highlands Holiday Tartan Dress 18″ Doll Clothes Pattern
Scottish tradition is not only admired, but is also a proud heritage across the Appalachian Mountain region of the Eastern United States. The earliest Scottish immigrants settled in Pennsylvania, and from there migrated to the Shenandoah Valley and on into the Carolinas, where they remained. Many family traditions and crafts are heavily influenced by the Scottish immigrants who made their homes there in the 17th and 18th centuries. Highland games are still popular in the area, as are tartans, kilts, tams, Presbyterian churches, moonshine, rock walls, herding and hunting dogs, and more. It is not uncommon to find a Scottish museum, to hear bagpipes and flutes played at a parade or funeral, and to taste fish and chips, meat pies, ginger beer, and bread pudding.
The FROG Princess Fashions Highlands Holiday pieces were inspired by the beautiful tartans of our Scottish and Irish ancestors who came to live in the southern Appalachians and are a tribute to my husband’s (and now my) family name. This traditional dress design features a fitted bodice with a jabot collar and shoulder extensions, puffed sleeves with optional sleeve bands or pleated ruffles, and a lovely pleated skirt with button band trim at the waist.
Stitch up your version in a small-scale tartan, homespun or houndstooth check, add the matching bonnet and purse, and the lovely Scottie quilt from the companion accessory set, and your doll will be beautifully clad for a Scottish- style holiday!
